What's your favorite tea? Robust Darjeeling? Spicy Chai?
or cozy Chamomile? Or are you adventurous enough to
try a new flavor? Do like the idea of settling into
your favorite nook with a romance novel and a good "cuppa"?
Does the sound of this cause you to wax nostalgic? Then
come and join the Friends of Smyrna Library as we kick
off our National Friends of the Library week celebration
with an afternoon tea and a chat with romance writers
Sandra Chastain and Susan Goggins. A book signing will
follow.
About
Tea *
Tea
consumption began in ancient China over 5, 000 years
ago. There are about three thousand variation of tea
depending upon its plantation, genetic "parentage",
processing, blending etc But all tea comes from one
plant i.e Camellia sinensis (This plant is a bush but
if allowed to grow wild, it can reach the height of
about thirty feet.) In general the tea can be categorized
into three main categories i.e green, black, and oolong.
There are, of course, many different varieties within
these three main categories. The major differences between
them are a result of the different processing methods
they undergo. Black teas undergo several hours of oxidation
(Fermentation), oolongs receive less oxidation or are
semi-fermented, and green teas are not oxidized at all.
Afternoon
Tea Today in the USA *
Tea is more popular than ever in America today. Currently,
there is a re-awakening of interest in tea as many Americans
seek a more positive, healthy lifestyle. Fine hotels
throughout the United States are re-establishing or
planning for the first time afternoon tea services.
