Program
Overview
Mary
Todd Lincoln lived a life filled with triumphs and tragedies,
but few people know her story. Now, librarian Laura Keyes
shares Marys story in an entertaining and educational
program entitled Mrs. Lincoln: The First First
Lady, focusing on the life and losses of Mrs.
Lincoln, set on April 14, 1865.
This
program depicts an extraordinarily important time in our
nations history from a point of view that is not often
explored. Learn how Mary Lincoln influenced monumental events
in her lifetime and why her story is still relevant today.
The
Afternoon Tea Service will be at 3 pm and feature a nice
selection of Hot Tea served in donated Porcelain Teacups,
Iced Tea, Vanilla Scones, Apple Pastries, Peach Preserves,
Savory Bites, and Dessert Cookies. *
* NOTE: This is an Environmentally Sustainable event.
All disposable plastic event supplies will be recycled at
the Smyrna Recycling Center and organic food leftovers will
be composted with a local composting vendor.

Teacup
& Teapot Donations NEEDED

We are
accepting donations of mismatched, colorful teacups and teapots
at the Circulation Desk. They will be used during the Afternoon
Tea that will be served during Laura F. Keyes performance
as Mary Todd Lincoln in The First "FIRST LADY on
Sunday, April 13, 2025 at the Smyrna Community Center. We
want to do something special for our ticket buyers with an
authentic Afternoon Tea with real china teacups & teapots.
We need
96 teacups and saucers and 24 teapots. We cannot guarantee
that they can be returned so we are just requesting donations.
After Ms. Keyes' Historic Voices performance, some
teacups, saucers, and teapots will be kept for check-out by
Smyrna Public Library patrons for Princess Parties for Kids,
Bridal Showers, and other Fun Family & Friends Events.
The remaining donated items will be sold with the funds used
for a historical book purchase.
Thank
you for de-cluttering your cupboard for a great cause.
