Watercolors

Growing
up in Minnesota, Lynn Rank Henry took every art class her
school provided. After moving to Georgia and working for years
at Georgia State University and then Coca-Cola, her lifelong
interest in art pushed her to harness her creative urges and
paint.
She
loves to travel and has spent many years exploring the United
States, Canada, and Europe. Through her travels, she has gained
an appreciation for diversity in people, cultures, architecture,
and nature. She savors the painting process and picks up her
paintbrush as often as she can.
At
this time of her life, Lynn is primarily a watercolorist focusing
on landscapes, cityscapes, and portraiture.
Lynn's
love of watercolors allows her to grasp diverse and unique
moments that reflect her love of nature and people. She feels
watercolors are much like visual poems, and loves watching
the paint melt into the water and thaw the stiffness of the
paper.
She
is currently attending classes at Kennesaw State University's
Continuing Education Program where she met Asa Stigaard. Both
artists strive to create paintings that reflect their travels,
that are powerful in their visual beauty, and that resonate
in some emotional way with the viewer.
Lynn
is influenced by masters such as Winslow Homer, John Singer
Sargent, and Andrew Wyeth.

Watercolors

The
arts have always been a big part of Icelandic culture and
I was brought up in an environment that fostered a deep appreciation
of both art and music. My grandmother was an artist and I
used to love watching her paint. Art was my favorite class
in school where I developed my first interest in drawing and
sketching.
When
I left my home country to work for the Embassy of Iceland
in Washington D.C., I began a long period of time in which
managing my career and raising a family took precedence and
overwhelmed my artistic instincts. But I knew how I wanted
to spend my time once I retired.
In
2004 I began taking art classes again, this time at Kennesaw
State University Continuing Education. I started with drawing
and working with pen and ink before I discovered my passion:
watercolor. I found that working with watercolor immersed
me in the experience of creation and allowed my imagination
to drive my artistic expression.
My
work has been influenced by several instructors: Pat Fiorello,
Gary Baughman, Pat Weaver, and, most especially, Kathy R.
Forbes at Kennesaw. I continue to take classes at Kennesaw
and after ten years of painting I have uncovered a deep appreciation
for a medium that gives me insight into people, nature, and
the world around me.

Acrylics

Lois
was born in Georgia. She went to Pepperell High School in Lindale,
Georgia and Massey Business College in Marietta, Georgia. One
of her many joys is painting which she began doing at an early
age. Her paintings result mostly from being self-taught, but
she has had the privilege of painting with numerous artists
over the years. Her raw talent is easily seen, and it has been
recognized many times over with plenty of first and second place
prizes in multiple competitions. Her artwork is very beautiful
and is proudly displayed throughout the homes of her family
and friends. |

Landscapes

I
was born and raised in Walnut Creek, CA., right in the middle
of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Growing up I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by great
music and great art during what one might say, ... my formative
years. I studied at the Academy of Art and California College
of Art in Oakland. My father said it was not a good career choice.
Now, after 3 decades as a Art Director, Creative Director and
design mentor, I've decided its time to break out the brushes,
palette knife and tubes of paints and paint just for myself
again. To quote a famous local band "what a long strange
trip its been." Hope you enjoy my work. |

Judy
Garrard is a life-long resident of Georgia and has called
Smyrna her home for 22 years. Photography is her hobby and
her passion. Judy also loves to travel and no matter where
she goes, she is compelled to take photos so that she can
share the beauty she finds with you.
She
focuses primarily on nature and is self taught. Over the past
couple of years, she has participated in several juried art
exhibits around Atlanta, but says that the opportunity to
exhibit at the Smyrna Public Library has been the most exciting.

Skyscapes
vs. Landscapes

Skyscapes
vs. Landscapes is a painting exhibition by Sophie Guoer. "The
clouds, they seem so far away yet are closer than we know.
I previously depicted clouds in a pond mirroring the sky's
image. When I worked on this series of paintings, the striking
images baffled me. I wished I could understand such images.
My perception has since altered how I view the sky mirrors
how we live on Our Earth".
Sophie
attended the University of Iowa and the University of Northern
Iowa for her graduate studies. She majored in Studio Art in
Painting and has her studio in Duluth, Georgia.
She
recently has had shows at the Fayetteville Public Library,
the Lawrenceville Public Library, the Collins Hill Public
Library and will shortly be exhibiting at the Cherry Hill
Public Library in New Jersey.

Whitefield
Academy Art
by Students of
the
Middle and Upper Schools
November 1, 2014 to January 3, 2015
|
Whitefield
Academy was formed in 1996 by the partnership of The Cranmer
School and the Mount Vernon Christian Academy. The goal of
this dynamic union was to provide Atlanta with a Christian
school that is academically excellent, financially sound,
and spiritually alive.
Each
of the two schools brought an important spiritual and material
contribution to this historic union; each brought its own
history of providential grace and faithfulness in providing
Christian education to the children of Atlanta. The first
of the schools, Mount Vernon Christian Academy, operated grades
8 - 12 on its fourteen-acre campus at the corner of Northside
Drive and Mount Paran Road for twenty-three years. From its
formation in 1973, the Mount Vernon parents, students, alumni,
administration, and board of trustees, worked tirelessly to
maintain a Christian, private-school alternative in northwest
Atlanta.
Whitefield's
Fine Arts program encourages students to develop artistic
skills to reach their creative potential and build the confidence
to express themselves. Whitefield students, through age appropriate
and challenging curriculum, explore many techniques to express
their individual creativity.
Stacy
Quiros, Fine Arts Director, has assembled a show of the children's
art work for an exhibition in our gallery through the end
of December.
